Description

This Elementary Science Special Education Curriculum Bundle contains 40 science units for special education students who follow the extended content standards and take alternate assessments.

 

These units were created using the extended content state standards and are specifically for students who:

• Have an intellectual disability
• Are early or non-readers
• Lack prerequisite skills
• Benefit from picture support
• take alternative assessments
• elementary school

 

Each unit is supported by a book (PowerPoint) that teaches the necessary information, as well as group and individual activities.

 

The similar format will help reduce students’ anxiety, as the activities will be familiar to them. This will allow them to focus more on the content than on how to complete the activity.

This curriculum is packed with engaging resources that can be used throughout elementary school to teach science.

 

In addition, many of these science activities and assessments include more than one version, suggestions for differentiation, and presentation options.

 

This science curriculum includes print and digital versions of most of the activities. Each unit has a differentiated set of Google slides. A movie version of the book is also included.

Much of what I have learned about curriculum development is incorporated into these units. For example, do not be afraid of repetition. It is critical that students with significant disabilities get to experience material over several days to be able to assimilate what is being taught fully. Also, adding visual supports to your printables and class activities helps students be able to pay more attention to the content you are presenting rather than the mechanics of what is expected. Finally, ask questions. Good questions!! Regardless of the material, asking students good questions will push them to think more deeply than before.

Each resource in the curriculum:

• Is intended to be used in one classroom
• Can be used for multiple years in the same classroom

You must purchase a new license to:

• Use the resource in a second classroom
• Use the resource in a new school
