This Contemporary Issues Curriculum contains 10 units covering facts concerning current events impacting the US.

The units were created using extended content state standards and are meant for students who take alternative assessments.

This Contemporary Issues curriculum addresses the historical context of current events and countries with which the US interacts.

 

This special education social studies curriculum covers 26 weeks of instruction.

 

In addition, many of these Contemporary Issues activities and assessments include more than one version, suggestions for differentiation, and presentation options.

 

This Contemporary Issues curriculum includes print and digital versions of the activities. Each unit has a differentiated set of Google slides. A movie version of the book is also included.

Much of what I have learned about curriculum development is incorporated into these units. For example, do not be afraid of repetition. It is critical that students with significant disabilities get to experience material over several days to be able to assimilate what is being taught fully. Also, adding visual supports to your printables and class activities helps students be able to pay more attention to the content you are presenting rather than the mechanics of what is expected. Finally, ask questions. Good questions!! Regardless of the material, asking students good questions will push them to think more deeply than before.

Each curriculum consists of a set of resources. For example, The Global Connections Unit is considered one resource.

Each resource in the curriculum:

• Is intended to be used in one classroom
• Can be used for multiple years in the same classroom
